Viena Vermelha é um termo que foi usado pela direita na Áustria nos anos 20 do século passado devido ao facto da cidade de Viena ter tido o governo regional dominado pelo Partido Social Democrata dos Trabalhadores da Áustria, governo que aplicou ambiciosas políticas de habitação, saúde, educação e saneamento.

O Partido Social Democrata dos Trabalhadores da Áustria foi popular em Viena até a ser ilegalizado em 1934 pelo governo federal dominado pela Frente Patriótica, ilegalização que continuou durante o domínio da Áustria pela Alemanha Nazi.

Quando fui voluntário num centro juvenil de Viena, um centro juvenil que está no outro lado da rua do imponente Karl Marx-Hof, notei algo, notei que Viena praticamente não tem prédios devolutos, chega a ser impressionante para alguém originário de um país onde não faltam prédios devolutos. 

Como não estava em Viena para me informar sobre habitação, limitei-me a constatar a realidade da cidade.

Ao ler artigos como “Red Vienna: How Austria’s capital earned its place in housing history” comecei a entender porque é tão difícil encontrar prédios devolutos em Viena. Viena é o que é devido às escolhas políticas feitas pelos Socialistas nos anos 20/ 30 do século passado. As escolhas políticas foram de tal forma ambiciosas e bem sucedidas que nem a direita do pós 2ª Grande Guerra consegue acabar com elas.

Nós não precisamos de turismo desenfreado para ter requalificação dos prédios, nós precisamos de políticas de habitação ambiciosas. Não sou contra o turismo mas precisamos de cidades que servem primeiro a população residente, e Viena é um dos melhores exemplos de como se põe o bem-estar da população em primeiro lugar.

Não fico admirado quando Viena é considerada ano após anos a melhor cidade para viver.

Agora a questão é, porque razão não se segue o modelo de sucesso vienense?

Estão à espera do quê governantes “socialistas” apoiados pelo Partido “Socialista”?

Não querem o melhor para o povo que dizem servir?

Red Vienna

Red Vienna is a term that was used by the right-wing in Austria in the 20s of the last century due to the fact that the city of Vienna had its regional government dominated by the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Austria, a government that implemented ambitious policies on housing, health, education and sanitation.

The Social Democratic Workers' Party of Austria was popular in Vienna until it was banned in 1934 by the federal government dominated by the Fatherland Front, a banishment that continued during Nazi Germany's domination of Austria.

When I volunteered at a youth center in Vienna, a youth center across the street from the imposing Karl Marx-Hof, I noticed something, I noticed that Vienna has practically no vacant buildings, it’s impressive for someone from a country where there are not so few vacant buildings.

As I wasn't in Vienna to find out about housing, I limited myself to seeing the reality of the city.

When reading articles like “Red Vienna: How Austria’s capital earned its place in housing history” I began to understand why it is so difficult to find vacant buildings in Vienna. Vienna is what it is due to the political choices made by Socialists in the 20s/30s of the last century. The political choices were so ambitious and successful that not even the right-wing after World War II is able to put an end to them.

We don't need unbridled tourism to have buildings remodeled, we need ambitious housing policies. I'm not against tourism but we need cities that serve the resident population first, and Vienna is one of the best examples of putting people's well-being first.

I'm not surprised when Vienna is considered year after year the best city to live.

Now the question is, why not follow the Viennese model of success?

What are “socialist” rulers supported by the “Socialist” Party waiting for?

Don't you want the best for the people you claim to serve?
