As imagens positivas que a Comissão Europeia divulga contrastam com as imagens de conflito e desagrado das ruas de várias cidades europeias. A Comissão Europeia bem pode mandar designers gráficos criarem as mais positivas imagens e gráficos com o objectivo de transmitir uma imagem de cumplicidade e serviço feito para com os povos europeus, contudo, a realidade é que as imagens, os gráficos, as conferências e as promessas de solidariedade não têm conseguido parar o crescente mal-estar dos povos em relação à União Europeia.

Foi-nos dito que a União Europeia era um projecto de paz e prosperidade, onde estão a paz e prosperidade?

Não há conflito armado na União Europeia, mas a ideologia neoliberal/ austeritária que domina a União Europeia cria mal-estar e conflitos crescentes.

Ainda há uma certa ideia que a União Europeia era um projecto progressista no início, que uma clique tomou conta do projecto Europeu e o tornou num projecto neoliberal austeritário, errado, a União Europeia que começou em 1993, substituindo a CEE (Comunidade Económica Europeia), foi sempre um projecto neoliberal. O Tratado de Maastricht que instituiu a União Europeia tinha nele embutido os constrangimentos fiscais como o défice deve ser sempre inferior a 3% e a dívida pública sempre inferior a 60% do PIB. A obrigação do défice ser sempre inferior a 3% e a dívida pública sempre inferior a 60% não têm fundamento técnico, são construções ideológicas, daí a União Europeia ser uma construção neoliberal desde o seu início.

A ideologia da austeridade reinante é o pilar fundamental da União Europeia, é responsável pelo declínio europeu e pela incapacidade dos Estados responderem de forma eficaz a crises, crises como a de 2008, não só não respondem de forma eficaz a crises como as crises ainda são utilizadas para punir os povos, especialmente os povos do sul da Europa.
